The importance of cinema is significant for any nation, especially for our Kurdish nation. Cinema is the mirror of nations. Through this mirror nations are produced with their history, culture, language, existent, and it distinguish the nations in the whole world. The education of our Kurdish nation is more spoken conveyed. Our culture is conveyed through stories and songs from generations to generations. Our history was not written allot, and who wrote our history were foreigners most of them.  So far, many Provisions and old Kurdish Saying are conveyed and transferred through spoken songs among our people. Therefore, it’s very important that cinema must keep before we lost and being forgotten. Cinema includes history, geography, literature, language, and many others horizon of life. In addition, all the art fields such as picture, music, song and acting also. The Kurdish life model, which is for sorry on its way to being lost, can be kept with all its color by cinema. The beauty of our country and the privacy of our nation such as the equality between men and women which is not founded in all the others nations around, where women is taking the responsibility and working side by side with men, is shown and distinguished and shown in cinema. In addition, cinema can hold our famous artist in all art fields. 

Apart from art and culture, cinema has significant important in diagnosing the problems of the society and finding solutions for these problems. The affection of cinema is might be stronger than a text, seminar, or even a poem.  At the same time, it’s very impotent that the film which we are talking about must be based on artistic and scientific bases, in order to have positive affection. Therefore, we always indicate that we are a nation which had an ancient history and a beautiful culture. But for years we were prevented from all side and were occupied especially our culture were forbidden for us. Therefore, we must be aware and very careful about our culture. We, as filmmakers, call the camera as our weapon. Since, usually weapons are used to defend and protect you. But at the same time, it can be used in a wrong way, which means sometimes, we can kill ourselves by the same weapon. So to use our camera in the right way, we must use it faithfully and in academic way.

Directorate of Cinema Arts - Duhok

The Directorate of Cinema Artists in Duhok is established in the early of 2007 by Viyan Mayi. This directorate belongs to the ministry of culture and youth. The main purpose of establishing this directorate is to serve the Kurdish cinema and also to establish a bridge between the Kurdish filmmakers with global filmmakers outside the country. Cinema is the nation’s mirror, and through cinema we will know ourselves and introduce our nation to all the others nations. So far, the results are obvious and many projects and activities are done by this directorate in Duhok such as featured films, short films, documentaries, film festivals, and film premiers.  In addition, sending many of the directorate employees and many others from outside the directorate to abroad in order to be more introduced to the film industry field. The directorate of Cinema Duhok has done many co-projects with foreign famous companies. This directorate is consisted of a young crew.
